Chiang Kai-Shek started his political career as the military aid to Sun Yat- Sen. In 1928, he became the undisputed leader of the Chinese Nationalist Party. From 1932 onward, he led a war on two frontsÐ with the Japanese, as well as with the Communists. Chiang was often a supplicant to Roosevelt for money and supplies. Roosevelt and Kai-Shek met at the Cairo Conference in November 1943. Chiang Kai-Shek later led Nationalist forces to defeat in their battle against the Communists. He lived out the rest of his life as the leader of Nationalist China (Taiwan).
